MANILA FASHION FESTIVAL:

SPRING/SUMMER 2016

The fashion capital of the Philippines, Manila, recently hosted the Manila Fashion Festival: Spring/Summer 2016 at Edsa Shangri-La. The event was a celebration of creativity and glamour, with visionary designers showcasing their incredible talent. Each collection presented was a unique reflection of the designer's distinct aesthetic, pushing the boundaries of fashion and leaving a lasting impression on the audience.

Manila Fashion Festival (MFF) is a major fashion event founded by Art Personas, Inc. Its purpose is to exhibit outstanding artistic production and enhance brand visibility through innovative execution. Jean and I were fortunate enough to receive an invitation from Clozette, the fashion-forward community, to attend the final day of the event. We had the opportunity to witness nine exceptionally talented designers showcase their work that evening.

ARIN x JANYLIN | "MUNICIPALITY" COLLECTION

The opening act of the night was a collaborative masterpiece by ARIN and Janylin, blending high fashion with footwear finesse. Arin's "Multiplicity" collection celebrated diversity and individuality. With a vibrant color palette, eclectic prints, and varied silhouettes, the designer embraced the beauty of differences. Arin's commitment to inclusivity and self-expression made "Multiplicity" a refreshing and empowering showcase.

BENGT ENRIQUE | "A WRINKLE IN TIME" COLLECTION

Bengt Enrique's "A Wrinkle in Time" collection took inspiration from the concept of time travel. Retro-futuristic elements, metallic accents, and bold accessories characterized Enrique's designs. The collection was a visual journey through different eras, showcasing the designer's ability to seamlessly blend past and future aesthetics.

ELIZ MARCELO | "3.0" COLLECTION

Eliz Marcelo took inspiration from the Disney character, Pocahontas in her "3.0" collection, fusing traditional elements with a modern twist. Earthy tones adorned the garments, creating a harmonious blend of heritage and contemporary style. Marcelo's attention to detail and commitment to cultural appreciation made her collection a standout during the festival.

VIA VALENCIA | "FAC'TUM" COLLECTION

Via Valencia's "Fac'tum" collection explored the intersection of reality and fantasy. With bold geometric patterns, futuristic silhouettes, and a monochromatic color palette, Valencia's designs reflected a visionary aesthetic. "Fac'tum" demonstrated the designer's ability to push boundaries and challenge conventional fashion norms.

JOY CHICANO | "AMBIGUITY OF VENUS" COLLECTION

Joy Chicano explored avant-garde fashion with her "Ambiguity of Venus" collection. Contrasting textures, experimental silhouettes, and a bold color palette challenged traditional notions of beauty and identity. Chicano's avant-garde approach left a lasting impression, prompting contemplation on the diverse expressions of womanhood.

ESME PALAGANAS | "ALL FRILLS, ALL THRILLS" COLLECTION

Esme Palaganas brought a playful and flamboyant energy to the runway with her collection titled "All Frills, All Thrills." Vibrant colors, exaggerated frills, and bold patterns defined Palaganas' aesthetic. The collection exuded a sense of joy and uninhibited creativity, showcasing fashion as a form of self-expression and celebration.

CHEETAH RIVERA | "BELOVED" COLLECTION

Cheetah Rivera's "Beloved" collection exuded romance and sophistication. Soft fabrics, delicate lace, and flowing silhouettes dominated the runway, creating an ethereal ambiance. Rivera's keen sense of femininity and grace shone through, making "Beloved" a captivating showcase of timeless elegance.

TONY EVAN | "THE NEW ROMANTIC" COLLECTION

Tony Evan not only brought a touch of romance to the runway with his collection titled "The New Romantic" but also added a touch of star power by choosing Lovi Poe as the grand finale. The actress graced the catwalk in a stunning red long gown, embodying the epitome of elegance and sophistication. Evan's ability to seamlessly blend romantic aesthetics with the allure of a celebrity presence added an extra layer of glamour to an already enchanting collection.

BANGGO NIU | "SEA SIREN" COLLECTION

Closing the show with a bang, Banggo Niu's "Sea Siren" collection transported the audience to an underwater realm. Fluid fabrics, iridescent hues, and avant-garde designs captured the essence of the ocean. Niu's innovative use of materials and impeccable craftsmanship showcased a deep connection to nature, earning accolades for his evocative and visually stunning collection.

After the event, Jean and I decided to capture the memories by having a quick photoshoot. We wore matching gray/silver outfits that reflected the chic ambiance of the fashion festival. Thanks to our dear friend and photographer, Frame Rivas, for capturing this event.

Manila Fashion Festival 2016 was more than just a display of beautiful garments. It was a celebration of the creativity, innovation, and unwavering spirit of the Philippine fashion industry. We are grateful to Clozette for the exclusive invitation, which allowed us to witness this spectacle firsthand. As we reflect on the designs that graced the runway, it becomes clear that Manila's fashion landscape is not just about clothing; it's about storytelling, cultural pride, and the relentless pursuit of artistic excellence.

TO GOD BE THE GLORY!
